Omar Sosa in honor of Miles Davis

Eggun: The Afri-Lectric Experience, new album by Omar Sosa is inspired by Miles Davis’ work and dedicated to his 1959 album Kind of Blue, one of the most sold jazz albums of all times.

The album of this Cuban pianist will be released by the end of February, after four years of work. Everything started in 2009 when Sosa arranged and produced a tribute performance for the 50th anniversary of the above mentioned album for the Barcelona Jazz Festival.

Unlike most tribute albums, Eggun doesn’t contain one Miles’ composition. All About Jazz wrote that the repertoire “derives from the melodic cells of Kind Of Blue’s solos, it’s open to interpretation and it captures the spirit, if not the musical essence, of Miles Davis.”

Smithsonian Associates from Washington honored Sosa ten years ago with a lifetime achievement award for his contribution to the development of Latino jazz in the United States of America. We welcomed this artist and his Afreecanos Quartet in 2008 at the 12th edition of Jazz Fest.
