A concert honoring Miles Davis

Tonight at 8 PM at Los Angeles’ concert hall Hollywood Bowl will be held a concert honoring trumpeter Miles Davis.

The program will be hosted by Herbie Hancock, and two of Miles’ musical partners, Marcus Miller and Jimmy Cobb will perform with their projects gathered to honor Miles Davis.

Composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Marcus Miller will perform with his Tutu Revisited project (named after Miles’ 1986 album Tutu), while drummer Jimmy Cobb will introduce his Kind of Blue: Jimmy Cobb’s “So What” Band.

Jimmy Cobb is the last living member of the ensemble Davis recorded his legendary album Kind of Blue with. This is the best selling classic jazz album in history and it was a stylistic turning point of it’s own, even for genres outside jazz borders. This album was released in 1959, at it’s 50th release anniversary the So What Band was formed.

At the concert the Kind of Blue repertoire will be performed, as well as Electric Band compositions from the ’70., including his pop inspired album Tutu.

There will be an introduction of the Miles Davis post stamp at the Hollywood Bowl museum terrace before the concert. The stamp was released at the beginning of the year.

Listen to the Tutu Revised ensemble Marcus Miller will be performing with at tonight’s concert.
