In New Orleans will be organized the Celebrating Satchmo Festival from 3rd to 5th August.
This is it’s 12th edition in the birth town of Louis Armstrong, honoring this great jazzist.
The three day festival program is dedicated to life, herritage and music of “New Orleans’ son”, it consists of free and public seminars and concerts.
Among seminar participators are George Avakian, Satchmo’s producer and friend, Michael Cogswell from the Armstrong House & Archives – a museum founded in 1971 in Satchmo’s house, and multiple Grammy Award winner, Armstrong’s scholar, prominent jazz chronic and critic, Dan Morgenstern.
The musical part of the festival is made of traditional and contemporary jazz, brass bands and programing for children. It features New Orleans’ trumpeters Leroy Jones, Jeremy Davenport, Shamarr Allen i James Andrews, as well as Yoshio Toyama (aka Satchmo of Japan) and the Dixie Saints, clarinetist Tim Laughlin, singer Leah Chase, Lars Edegran’s New Orleans Ragtime Orchestra and many more.
The festival will be also celebrated with a traditional parade on 4th August, Louis Armstrong’s birthday, programs for children and a Sunday morning Mass at St. Augustine church as well as in restaurants all over the town with Armstrong’s favourite dishes on the menu.
