Jazzwise: Power of 15

Tomorrow ends a festival at the legendary Ronnie Scott’s Club in London, organized to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Jazzwise, one of the most influential jazz magazines worldwide.

Jazzwise To The Power of 15 is the full name of it and the festival is set to „showcase the legacy, diversity, and cutting edge of jazz“ by inviting artists the magazine has featured during the past 15 years.

“I’m thrilled that we are now in long trousers and old enough to be allowed to celebrate our 15th anniversary at Ronnie Scott’s club, one of the most important jazz shrines in the world. We will be presenting some of the greatest names in jazz alongside contemporary innovators and the best of the UK and European cutting edge. Artists that Jazzwise has supported and discovered over the years and, importantly, musicians that have all taken the music to higher level!”, as Jazzwise editor John Newey explained.

The festival stage was attended by the ensemble Troyk-estra, performing specially commissioned new material, Arun Ghosh Quartet, Empirical & Michael Wollony’s [em] Trio and Ron Carter’s  Foursight, whereas tonight’s highlight is going to be the Chris Potter Quartet, famous saxophone player’s ensemble. This prominent artist performed twice in Sarajevo at the international Jazz Fest, both times with British famous double bass player Dave Holland, first in 2001 when they introduced themselfs as duo and two years ago as a member of the Dave Holland Quartet.

Here you can enjoy Potter’s interpretation of Body and Soul, a jazz standard played at a TV show called Legends of Jazz.
