Solo concert of Erik Friedlander will be featured as part of the Musick and Magick program at this year’s Jazz Fest Sarajevo – the program which brings the diversity of music and genres of John Zorn, one of the most significant contemporary American composers.
This cellist, improviser, and composer is a veteran of the New York downtown scene. His most famous work is with John Zorn, for whose record label Tzadik he recorded almost 30 albums.
He began to play a guitar as a six year old, and two years later started playing cello. In addition to Zorn, he also worked with Laurie Anderson, Courtney Love and Alanis Morissette. He is a member of the Masada ensemble since the beginning, as well as the ensemble Topaz. Billboard Magazine rated him as “one of today’s most ingenious and forward- thinking musical practitioners.”
The music that he will present at the concert in Sarajevo on November 2nd is magical and endlessly seductive. The second book from Masada’s body of work has a title The Book Of Angels, and Friedlander has recorded several albums within this 23 CDs series. A solo concert and a repertoire from the Volac album will be performed in Sarajevo. At the concerts, Friedlander’s incredible technique enriches each piece by bringing intimate, and at the same time a wonderful musical experience.
The ticket for Erik Friedlander concert is also valid for the concert of the guitarist duet of Julian Lage & Gyan Riley, and tickets for this and all other concerts of XX1st Jazz Fest Sarajevo, which will be held from 31st of October to 5th of November, you can buy immediately.
