The live album Le Duo by pianist Bojan Zulfikarpašić and saxophonist Julien Lourau, available as a digital release since beginning of 2015, is now also available as a limited CD edition.
Le Duo is their first release, although the two artists have been performing together for the past 17 years. The album consists of compositions previously released on individual albums by the pianist and the saxophonist, like Grana od bora from Bojan Zulfikarpašić’s quartet release of the same name, or Gradino kolo from the album Koreni.
Beside a yearlong professional collaboration, Zulfikarpašić and Lourau are also bound by a 25 year long friendship which made this release, according to their words a “friendship venture“, recorded in order to offer audiences “pure happiness“.
We’ve listened to Lourau at Jazz Fest in 2001 at the world premier of the trio BoZiLo with Karim Ziad and Bojan Zulfikarpašić, whose work has been followed by Jazz Fest for years and regularly introduced, bearing in mind that he is among international, most successful pianists and composers of Bosnian and Herzegovinian roots.
Bojan Z is going to release an another album this year, a joint album with trombonist Nils Wogram who we listened to at Jazz Fest in 2003 with his ensemble Root 70.
Both duets: Bojan Z & Julien Lourau and Bojan Z & Nils Wogram will be introduced at concerts within 20th Jazz Fest Sarajevo 2016.
