The program of this year’s international music festival Jazz Fest Sarajevo is completed. The 20th anniversary will be held from 02 to 06 November and the first artist of the jubilee line up, whose name we proudly announce, is John Zorn, American composer, saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist, producer and conductor.
John Zorn is the leader of New York’s downtown scene and one of the most important composers of today. His career is marked by hundreds of genre diverse album credits, from jazz, rock, hardcore, classic music, surf and metal, to ambient, film and improvised music.
John Zorn’s works are being performed by numerous musicians, among others by Marc Ribot, Pat Metheny, Medeski, Martin & Wood, Uri Caine or Bill Frisell, while Mike Patton, Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson are among those who performed with him. He gained absolute cult status back in the 90’s with a project of epic proportions – Masada.
He was twice a candidate for the Pulitzer Prize in the field of music, 10 years ago he received the prestigious MacArthur Genius Grant which is being given to exceptional American artists, at the age of 54 Columbia University honored him with a life achievement award and he earned three honorary doctorates from both American and European universities.
In celebration of the 20th anniversary, Jazz Fest is going to present its most opulent and most comprehensive program so far, consisting of more than 30 different music ensembles on 4 locations, including European and World premiers as well as programs created in regard of the festival’s 20th anniversary.
