Django Bates @ Moldejazz

British composer, improvisor, pianist and multi-instrumentalist Django Bates is performing today with the Norwegian ensemble Lalaland at the international jazz festival Moldejazz, the oldest music festival of its kind in Europe.

This unique artist will join the trio of trumpeter Per Jørgensen, bassist Ole Morten Vågan and drummer Håkon Mjåset Johansen on the piano, at a concert “expected to be a lively place, at the intersection of spontaneous composition and free improvisation”.

Django Bates is an artist who personally presents his versatile opus as composer, band leader and educator on rare occasions to audiences.

Jazz Fest visitors had the pleasure of listening to him on few occasions in Sarajevo: in 1999 at the 3rd festival edition when he introduced his ensemble Quiet Nights, at the 8th Jazz Fest in 2004 with his project Human Chain and vocalist Josefine Lindstrand and in 2008 at the 12th Jazz Fest, when he played the solo piano repertoire Autumn Fires & Green Shots.

Bates will be back in Sarajevo for this year’s jubilee program of the 20th Jazz Fest on 5 November at BKC, with his nine-member Swiss ensemble humanCHain and give a lecture named  How Dare You Play Music In A Classroom? a day earlier, on 4 November at Gradska vijećnica, aimed at teachers, professors, scholars and all other education professionals.

Day tickets for BKC for 5 November, which beside the Django Bates concert, are valid for the concerts of Bojan Z & Nils Wogram, Julien Laurau & Bojan Z and Terje Rypdal Group + Palle Mikellborg, can be bought at a special price of 30 KM at the link tickets.
