Jacob Colier – “the new miracle” on the music scene

With his voice and vocal performances, but first and foremost with his captivating multi-instrumentalism, Jacob Collier is taking over the music scene by storm.

Jazzwize Magazine referred to him as “the future of music” and the British Guardian named him the “new jazz messiah” after a performance at Ronnie Scott’s past summer; Pat Metheny called himself a big fan of Collier when he prized the young Brit’s chords, arrangements and singing to be excellent, while the famous producer Quincy Jones used the following words to describe him: “I have never before heard talent like this.”

Today Quincy Jones mentors Jacob Collier and after the London Jazz Festival and Montreux Jazz Festival, he is going to introduce the young artist to the audience at New York’s club Subrosa.

Collier is currently recording and producing his first album, which he plans to release this year, while in the meantime he writes arrangements for big orchestras around the world, holds master classes at schools and universities, works with different musicians – he made guest appearances on Snarky Puppy’s Family Dinner Vol. 2 and has collaborated with the band Take 6.

Don’t let your judgement be clouded by his age, this young 21 year old jazz piano student at the Royal Academy Of Music in London is fascinated by harmony and rhythm and in jazz he has found everything that occupies his interest – harmony, rhythm, improvisation, energy and fun.

Collier became at first a YouTube sensation with his self recorded videos of popular songs, but also with his original compositions which he arranges, performs, produces and edits all by himself. Watch his interpretation of the contemporary Michael Jackson classic.
