58th Grammy Award Nominees Announced

Names of nominees for America’s most prestigious music award, the Grammy, have been announced. Among them are artists who performed at Jazz Fest in this, as well as in previous years.

American pianist Jason Moran, who introduced his latest project Fats Waller Dance Party last month within 19th Jazz Fest Sarajevo is nominated in the category for Best Soundtrack Compilation for music he wrote for the movie Selma by American director Ave DuVernay.

Also nominated is Guitarist Bill Frisell in the category for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album for his release Guitar in the Space Age! which he presented with his quartet at Jazz Fest Sarajevo in 2014.

In the category Best Improvised Jazz Solo nominated are saxophonist Joshua Redman and guitarist John Scofield whose concerts were watched by Jazz Fest audience in 2007 when Redman performed with his trio with bassist Omer Avital and drummer Gregory Hutchinson and in 2005, 2010 and 2013 when Scofield played with his trio and his Uberjam quartet.

John Scofiled was also nominated in the category Best Instrumental Jazz Album for his latest release Past Present.

Yet an another Jazz Fest participant is nominated in the category for Best Latin Jazz Album – pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba whose music we heard in 2006 when he held a concert at the Jazz Fest with guitarist Joao Bosco.

The 58th Grammy awarding ceremony will be held on 15 February at the Staples Center Los Angeles. You can find the complete list of nominees here.
