Tomasz Stanko, one of the most influential living trumpeters, will perform tonight at 19th Jazz Fest on the main festival stage at Bosanski kulturni centar.
It will be his second performance in Sarajevo and the first after 60 years. Let’s be reminded that this artist, “one of the greatest and most original trumpeters of all times” according to the prestigious The New Yorker, had his first international performance as a 13 year old boy and member of a Polish orchestra just in Sarajevo at a scout meeting. Today, at the age of 73 Stanko is proving to be evenly vital as instrumentalist and author.
His discography counts 37 albums which he recorded as a leader. Among numerous important accolades he has received, there is also the one of notable American educational institution The Smithsonian that included one of his compositions into their Jazz: The Smithsonian Anthology, a box set released on only six CDs.
Tonight at 22.00 at the Jazz Fest Stanko is going to introduce his Scandinavian-American ensemble of Finnish pianist Alexi Tuomarila and Americans, bassist Eric Revis and drummer Gerald Cleaver.
On the same night, on the same stage, only two hours earlier, at 20.00, Norwegian-Austrian duet of trumpeter Arve Henriksen and guitarist Christian Fennesz will take the audience on a musical journey to unexplored soundscapes.
Visitors will have the chance to watch and listen to both concerts with a purchase of one ticket – the popular double bill ticket, which can be bought at the box office at BKC from 12.00.
At 23.30 Club Monument will become a meeting place of Bosnian and Herzegovinian musicians and regional soloists, with the traditional jam session taking place. Tickets will be available at the entrance of the club.
