Charles Lloyd: Wild Man Dance

Wild Man Dance is the name of a new album by saxophonist Charles Lloyd. It was recorded at a concert at the Polish Jazztopad Festival in Wrocław two years ago.

Charles Lloyd composed it for the festival’s 10th anniversary, where the six piece work had it’s  premiere perfromance.

Lloyd was joined at the concert by pianist Gerald Clayton, double bassist Joe Sanders, percussionist Gerald Cleaver, and the virtuous musicians Sokratis Sinopulos playing the lira as well as Lukács Miklós on harpsichord.

This is Lloyd’s first release for the label Blue Note after A Night in Copenhagen, a CD from 1985 whose repertoire was recorded at Copenhagen Jazz Festival where Charles Lloyd performed with pianist Michel Petrucciani, double bassist Palle Danielsson, drummer Woody Theus and special guest, vocalist Bobby McFerrin.

For the concert in Poland and world premiere of his Wild Man Dance piece Lloyd has gathered musicians who have never before played together. Lloyd talks about the new album in the video below where he introduces the new material.
