20th Anniversary of Jazz Cerkno

20 years ago music was heard for the first time from the festival stage of Jazz Cerkno, the international music festival that has for two decades been welcoming important jazz musicians coming from different parts of the world and annually rising number of audiences to the famous Slovenian ski resort city.

This year’s festival is dedicated to the too early deceased director of Jazz Cerkno Boštjan Cvek who didn’t live long enough to see the anniversary edition of the festival he initiated. However, the credit for this year’s program selection that starts today and goes until 23 May goes on his account.

By understanding jazz as a very wide and open artistic form, Jazz Cerkno every year introduces concerts based on experimentation and improvisation with special attention to projects of local, Slovenian musicians.

In the next few days the stage build on Cerkno’s main square will be approached by, among others, Alexander von Schlippenbach, Aki Takase, Marc Ribot with his trio Ceramic Dog, Marcin Wasilewski and The Ex. You can take a look at the whole  program here.

On first festival day among other performances the audience will be introduced to German-Japanese duo Schlippenbach/Takase. It is the first time that Jazz Cerkno is presenting a joint concert by two pianists.
