Louis Armstrong concerts on 9 CDs

Mosaic Records is going to release a collection of live performances of Louis Armstrong and his band All Stars on 20 May.

The set consists of performances recorded between 1947 and 1958, released on 9 CDs with a total of 163 compositions, 75 of which are being released for the first time.

The collection opens with 20 compositions Armstrong played at New York’s Town Hall in 1947 with his All Stars – trombonist Jack Teagarden, clarinetist Peanuts Huck, pianist Dick Cary, bassist Bob Haggartt and two drummers, George Wettlin and Sid “Big” Catlett.

Seven decades after it’s recording, the Carnegie Hall performance from the same year will be released for the first time on one of the CD’s after it was accidentally discovered at the RCA Victor archives where it was considered lost due to wrong labeling.

The set also contains unreleased compositions recorded in Ghana starring local musicians, “Mack the Knife” performed at Carnegie Hall as well as a TV interview for See It Now and lots more.

Armstrong’s performances at Newport Jazz Festival between 1956 and 1958 will be released on the same day on a 4 LP set.
