The Season – a musical by Josh Dolgin aka SoCalled

Canadian multi-instrumentalist, composer, rapper, writer, photographer and magician among other things Josh Dolgin aka SoCalled has recorded a new album The Season consisting of compositions he wrote for his first musical of the same name.

Dolgin dared to compose music for a musical two years ago when his musical The Season premiered at Canadian festival POP Montreal. The story of a forbidden love between a bear and a furry, red extraterrestrial being is placed in a wood at hunting season and told by an actor/puppet ensemble. Dolgin himself worked on almost every aspect of the musical, even on the scenery.

“The story is personal, there is a lot from my private life in it. Frankly, the drama that the main characters, animals and red furry beings go through symbolizes some of my own hard phases in life. It’s about finding true love and not being able to be with him or her”, said SoCalled.

Dolgin later composed the overture and recorded the album with an ensemble consisting among others of Fred Wesley. It was released at the beginning of this spring for the record label Dare to Care Records.

Josh Dolgin made a name for himself in the last ten years as a multitalened artist best known for his uncommon blend of klezmer with hip hop that led critics to naming him the Yiddish James Brown.

This versatile artist is going to open the 17th edition of Jazz Fest Sarajevo with clarinetist David Krakauer, funk master Fred Wesley and seven other members of Abraham Inc with a concert on the stage of Bosanski kulturni centar.
