Zorn @ 60

The 60th birthday of John Zorn will be celebrated in New York with a festival Zorn @ 60, where from June till October this instrumentalist and composer will perform a series of concerts with more then 100 by him hand-selected musicians.

At eight locations, among whom are the Anthology Film Archives, the Metropolitan Museum, the Miller Theatre and the Guggenheim Museum, where Ryuichi Sakamoto, Marc Ribot, Shanir Blumenkranz, Malika Zarra, Sofia Rei, John Medeski, Trevor Dunn, Mike Patton, Kenny Wollesen, Carol Emanuel, Erik Friedlander and many more will perform.

The birthday of the American avantgarde musician will be celebrated at his performances at London’s Barbican and Paris’ Cité de la Musique as well. Within Europe’s biggest jazz festival – North Sea Jazz Festival, on 13th July this year, the program of one of festival’s stages will be dedicated to Zorn who is going to introduce himself with a series of 5 concert performances with different ensembles.

Zorn is one of central figures on New York’s scene 1975. He composed pieces for string quartets, vocal music, chamber music, opera, symphony orchestra and released over 100 CDs with his own name. He composed over 50 film scores and wrote more then 600 compositions for his well known Masada project.
