Dutch drummer and percussionist Han Bennink is this year’s winner of Jazzahead! Škoda Award. Bennink will be awarded 15.000 EUR, and on 25 April he will play a concert in Bremen, on the Jazzahead opening day.
“Han Bennink is one of the most individual and stylistically open personalities of jazz of the past 40 years, a humoristic and vivid synthesis of the arts”, Jazzahead’s artistic directors agree. Bennink is not only known as a musician, but as a graphic artist as well.
Bosnian and Herzegovinian audience had the chance to see his work at an exhibition during 12th Jazz Fest Sarajevo 2008, when Bennink played a solo concert and performed as a member of Misha Mengelberg Quartet.
The Jazzahead Škoda Award is being awarded for the eighth time this year, it’s winners are being chosen by the committee of this music event, which consists of a fair, festival and a conference. It is one of the most important platforms of European jazz scene, gathering artists, labels, publishers, distributors, promoters and other members of the profession.
