One more grammy for Charlie Haden

Jazz musician and composer Charlie Haden is one of this year’s winners of the Grammy Award for Lifetime Achievement.

The American double bassist will receive the award on 09 February in Los Angeles within the Grammy week. The prestigious award for lifetime achievement, beside Haden, will be awarded to Glenn Gould, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Carole King, Patti Page, Ravi Shankar and The Temptations.

The American Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences will be presenting the golden statues for the 55th time. In their official press release Haden was described as an “all- American jazz musician known for his signature lyrical bass lines and his ability to liberate the bassist from an accompanying role”.

Beside the revolutionary contribution he had made to the quartet of Ornette Coleman as a member, Haden collaborated with important artists among whom were Chet Baker, Ed Blackwell, John Coltrane, Dexter Gordon, Billy Higgins, Art Pepper and Archie Shepp.

We listened to Haden and his ensemble Liberation Music Orchestra at the Jazz Fest Sarajevo in 2005. Special guest of the project was Carla Bley. Watch a video where Bley and Haden talk about the mentioned project.
