On 31 October at the Bosnian Cultural Center, 16th Jazz Fest Sarajevo will present the excellent Brazilian female composer, guitarist and vocalist, Badi Assad, who is celebrating her 20th anniversary on stage this year.
Her beginnings date back to mid 1980′s Rio de Janeiro when she was dubbed best Brazilian guitarist with a debut album that followed. Since then twenty years have passed, Badi has released 11 albums, performed around the world with some of the best musicians, among them John Abercrombie, Pat Metheny, Larry Coryell and Bobby McFerrin.
In 1995 she was named best acoustic guitarist by the Guitar Player magazine, and her album Rhythms was voted best classical album in the magazine’s readers’ poll the same year.
In addition to original compositions her repertoire consists of pieces by guitar heroes such as Egberto Gismonti or Ralph Towner, and in her concerts she also plays popular compositions by the artists such as Björk, Eurhythmics, Tori Amos or Asian Dub Foundation.
She combines exotic sounds from different parts of the world with elements of traditional Brazilian music, and, as a result, creates an exciting blend of music impossible to describe. She is a singer who makes you believe what she says, even if you don’t understand the language she sings in.
