On 2 November, within it’s 16th edition Jazz Fest Sarajevo will present the French accordionist and composer Richard Galliano with his La Strada Quintet performing compositions by the famous Italian film music composer Nino Rota.
It is about famous compositions from likewise famous movie classics like Fellini’s La dolce vita and La Strada or Coppola’s Godfather, for whose second sequel Rotta won the Grammy, the Oscar and a Golden Globe for best film music, without counting his other awards and nominations.
Galliano is considered by critics one of the most important accordionists of our time. An inspiring artist, who celebrated the accordion in jazz with his compositions. Some of his albums like Blow Up have sold 100.000 copies, while his CD Bach on the accordion became best sold classic music album of 2010 with more then 40.000 sold copies.
The La Strada Quintet project was founded last year regarding the hundredth anniversary of the Italian composer. At the Sarajevo concert Galliano will perform Nino Rota’s repertoire with extraordinary Italian musicians: trumpeter Flavio Boltro, clarinetist Mauro Negri, double bassist Furio di Castri and drummer Mattia Barbieri.
During his opulent carrer Galliano played with some of the biggest names of jazz like Chet Baker, Ron Carter, Joe Zawinul and Charlie Haden, and with the great Astor Piazzolla he was bound by, not only collaboration, but big friendship he dedicated two albums to.
He performed at the 4th Jazz Fest Sarajevo in 2000 with his trio. Galliano proves with every performance that he is a virtuous and versatile musician, able to captivate the audience in every context – from solo performances to big orchestra concerts.
