Wallace Roney: Home

Home, the latest album by the American trumpeter Wallace Roney has been released on the High Note label. Critics believe Roney maintains an inventive and open-minded approach to music, characteristic of his earlier albums.

Home has eight compositions, six originals, one by Wayne Shorter and one by John McLaughlin. Among the musicians who played on the album are saxophonist Antoine Roney, keyboardist Aruan Ortiz, bassist Rahshaan Carter, drummers Kush Abadey, Darryl Green and Bobby Ward, percussionist Shakoor Sanders, organist Doug Carn and George Burton on Fender Rhodes.

Wallace Roney is the only trumpeter Miles Davis ever mentored. Critics often consider his style descended from the legendary jazz artist, even thought Roney cites various influences from bebop, post bop, Coltrane, Hancock, Weather Report, to hip-hop and of course Miles in a unique way.

At the 16th Jazz Fest Sarajevo 2012 Wallace Roney will perform for the first time in Sarajevo as a member of the Miles Smiles ensemble, which is made up of former Miles associates. The concert will take place on 1 November, at the 16th Jazz Fest Sarajevo.

Watch an interesting documentary about this American trumpeter who, alongside Shorter, Hancock, Carter and Williams participated on the Grammy awarded album A Tribute to Miles.
