Linda Oh: “Initial Here”

Initial Here is the second album of young bassist Linda Oh. Right after release in May this year, the record got excellent grades by audience and critics.

After her 2010 self-released debut album Entry, the new one was released by Greenleaf Music, the record label of trumpeter Dave Douglas.

For this artist the new album represents a research of her heritage. “This album tells the story of identity, cultural and musical. I wanted to go in few different directions to explore a few extreme emotions”, said Oh.

Initial Here was recorded with a quartet made of pianist Fabian Almazan, drummer Rudy Royston and saxophonist Dayna Stephens. The repertoire consists of 10 compositions, jazz standards and Linda Oh originals.

This young artist of Chinese roots was born in Malaysia, she grew up in Perth, Australia. She lives at the moment in New York where she performs and teaches regularly at The Manhattan School of Music. She is a member of the Sound Prints quintet alongside Dave Douglas and Joe Lovano.
