15th Jazz Fest Sarajevo on 4th of November on the stage of the Youth theatre will present Stian Westerhus, a young Norwegian artist whose name is becoming more and more significant in Norway and the European music scene.
This guitarist co-operates with major Norwegian musicians like Nils Petter Molvaer, Arve Henriksen, Paal Nilssen-Love and Sidsel Endresen. For his skill he was awarded the best young jazz musician of the year, and at the the jazz festival in Molde he was awarded for outstanding talent. In the Britain has earned a significant “BBC Award for Innovation in Jazz”.
His performances on electric guitar are journeys to unexplored spheres of sound. Westerhus tests the capabilities of this instrument to its maximum without any mercy. However, despite this seemingly brutal treatment, the music of Stian Westerhus is unusually expressive, atmospheric, and subordinated to some melodic atmosphere. It is not limited by genre, it is simply the result of the individual vision of its the author.
The British magazine JazzWise wrote on Westerhus: “The music seems to come from another world, charged with jazz, but not defined by it. Welcome to the new century of improvised music.”
