Dave Douglas at Royal Academy

Dave Douglas, an influential and important name in jazz and experimental, is the new international jazz artist in residence at the Royal Academy of Music in London. At this position he will remain through the coming school year, starting in January 2012.

Douglas himself is a former student of the prestigious Berklee College of music, New England Conservatory and NYU, the award-winning musician and author who leads the renowned New York FONT (Festival of New Trumpet Music), his own label, Greenleaf and he is a member of John Zorn’s quartet Masada. Some of his own projects are the quintet, sextet Keystone, Chamber Ensemble Nomad and metal brass band Brass Ecstasy.

Visiting artist in a number of international jazz festivals around the world, Dave Douglas in 2008 years played within the program Strange Fruits Stage, at 12th Sarajevo Jazz Fest.

As an inspiration for many other artists, thanks to his distinctive approach to music, Douglas will share part of his knowledge and vision  with interested parties at the Royal Academy of Music, a series of lectures and concerts to be held in the coming year. Some of the aforementioned will be made available to the general public.
