Europe Jazz Network (EJN) and Jazz Fest Sarajevo this June are organising a major event in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia-Herzegovina. The BEYOND EUROPE 2022 Conference (2 – 4 June) will be a meeting place for professionals from the jazz and creative music sector including members of the Europe Jazz Network as well as promoters, artists, agents and managers from the Balkan region and beyond.
Taking place across multiple venues including the National Theatre of Sarajevo, the event will comprise panels and keynote speeches, film screenings, a showcase festival with some great national and regional musical acts, informal networking moments between the participants and cultural visits illuminating this beautiful city and its fascinating and rich history.
While the Balkan region is located at the very heart of Europe, many countries are currently outside the borders of the European Union. BEYOND EUROPE 2022 aims to strengthen cooperation and exchange between creative music professionals within the Balkan region and with the rest of Europe and to reflect on how creative music can be a vehicle for international cooperation based on the shared values of peace, solidarity, inclusion, diversity, and community. We anticipate that the meeting in Sarajevo, coupled with the troubled times that we are currently experiencing, will be an occasion to ask us the question: how can creative music be a real catalyst for shared values beyond any country, and what could be the healing power of music in regions of conflict and tension?
The event is co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union, that is supporting EJN through its network strand.
A detailed programme and the public registration system (for participants that are not EJN members) are to be published soon.
