Istanbul Jazz Festival’s 19th Edition

Tomorrow starts the 19th edition of Istanbul Jazz Festival and it will go on till July 19 on 20 festival stages all around the city, offering 50 concerts of almost 300 local and international artists.

The festival is held under patronage of Istanbul’s culture and arts foundation (İKSV), which will celebrate it’s 40th anniversary with a world premier of The Istanbul Project, an ensemble of producer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Marcus Miller.

In The Istanbul Project, Marcus Miller will be accompanied by one of the leading clarinet players Hüsnü Şenlendirici, master percussionists Burhan Öcal and Okay Temiz, Turkey’s prominent jazz trumpeter İmer Demirer, and guitar virtuoso Bilal Karaman. Other members of the team are Louis Cato (drums) and Alex Han (saxophone), and Federico Gonzalez Peña (keyboards).

Pianist Keith Jarrett is coming back for the first time after his only performance in the Bosporus city in 1996. He’s will be back with the same ensemble, his trio made of bassist Gary Peacock and drummer Jack DeJohnette.

The rest of the program will introduce following artists: Morrissey, Erykah Badu, Antony and the Johnsons, Esperanza Spalding, Okay Temiz, Lyambiko, Ernest Ranglin, Monty Alexander, Caro Emerald, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Till Brönner, Lars Danielsson, The Dears, Gretchen Parlato, Ambrose Akinmusire, Bugge’n Friends, Ninety Miles, Magnus Öström, Dhafer Youssef, Phronesis, Eric Vloeimans and many more.
