Trumpeter and composer Dave Douglas and pianist Frank Wöste have recorded an album in a quartet with drummer Clarence Penn and bassist Matthew Brewer.
The first album of the Dave Douglas & Frank Wöste Quartet called Dada People came a result of the trumpeter’s and pianist’s collaboration, inspired by the work and life of Man Ray and his colleagues in the Dada and Surrealist movements.
Dada People brings original Douglas and Wöste compositions, to be released in September for Douglas’ record label Greenleaf Music.
We had the opportunity to see and hear Douglas in Sarajevo for the fist time in 2008, when he held a concert in a trio with violinist Mark Feldman and double bassist Scott Coley and as a member of the Micha Mengelberg Quartet at the 12th Jazz Fest, while this year, at Jazz Fest’s 20th, anniversary edition, he is going to perform as a member of the Masada quartet within John Zorn’s Sarajevo Marathon, where we will also get to hear Clarence Penn as a member pianist Uri Caine’s Trio with bassist Mark Helias.
