The international music festival Jazz Fest Sarajevo 2024 will be held from November 6th-9th and will feature artists from the United States, Spain, Cuba, Mali, Congo, France, Austria, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and New Zealand performing on various festival stages.
The Macedonian National Jazz Orchestra with Rambo Amadeus will open the festival at the National Theater on Wednesday, November 6th, Cuban pianist and singer Roberto Fonseca is performing the following day with his seven-piece ensemble, La Gran Diversión, while on November 8th concerts will be held by American trumpeter Theo Croker’s quartet and American guitarist Marc Ribot’s famous noise-rock trio, with guitarist and bassist Shahzad Ismaily and drummer Ches Smith. On the fourth day of the festival, the Teofilović Brothers will perform at the National Theater, celebrating 30 years of their musical work, as well as the brilliant “super group” Les Amazones d’Afrique with singers from Mali and Congo.
The Jazz Fest program at the Youth Theater is organizing two European premieres: concerts by the American doublebass player Trevor Dunn and the American-New Zealand quartet Titan to Tachyons, the band of guitarist Sally Gates. A new project by French artists Fakebooks will also be presented, as well as the Wanting Machine ensemble, a collaboration between Austrian artists and the American Pamelia Stickney, one of the most important instrumentalists and innovators of the theremin, while Lana Kostić, a Bosnian and Herzegovinian cellist and vocalist known by the stage name Lakiko, will present her latest album.
Jazz Fest Sarajevo 2024 is also relaunching the regional educational program for musicians and music students from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the wider region. The leader of the program is Damir Imamović, while the lecturers will be musicians and educators from the United States, Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Belgium. Music Meeting will gather 30 participants who will attend the lectures, masterclasses and workshops, and they will be able to register for this program as early as next week.
