British guitarist John McLaughlin won the Grammy Award for the best improvised jazz solo for Miles Beyond from Live at Ronnie Scott’s album, which he recorded with the ensemble with which he performed at Jazz Fest Sarajevo.
This is his ninth Grammy nomination since 1972, when he won his first nomination for the album Inner Mounting Flame, and the previous Grammy he won was awarded for Five Piece Band as the best instrumental jazz album in 2009.
In 2014, this guitar hero performed at Jazz Fest Sarajevo with the 4th Dimension ensemble of multi-instrumentalist Gary Husband, bassist Etienne M’Bappé and drummer Ranjit Barot.
Rolling Stone magazine ranked him among the greatest guitarist of all time, and in the history of jazz he is recorded as the founder of the Mahavishnu Orchestra, the Shakti project, but also as a contributor of Miles Davis with whom he recorded four studio albums.
