Marc Ribot returning to Jazz Fest

When the appearance of American guitarist Marc Ribot at Jazz Fest Sarajevo was negotiated for the first time, Ribot canceled the solo tour six months before the planned concert, to answer the invitation of Tom Waits to record the album Real Gone. Four years later, in 2007 he held a solo concert as agreed at the 11th Jazz Fest Sarajevo.

This guitarist and composer has appeared on some of the most successful albums of Elvis Costello, Marianne Faithful and Tom Waits, and has also worked with icons of American avant-garde such as Arto Lindsay, John Zorn, Bill Frisell, John Lurie, Anthony Coleman and Don Byron, while having a successful solo career at the same time and being a leader of many different style bands such as Ceramic Dog, Los Cubanos Postizos and others, including the Young Philadelphians with whom he has recently released an album and ended the first part of its promotional European tour.

Ribot is returning to Sarajevo this year, to the 20th Jazz Fest with the group Asmodeus which will participate in John Zorn’s Sarajevo marathon, where new compositions from the book The Batelles will be presented on 04 November at Bosanski kulturni centar.

Asmodeus consists of bassist Trevor Dunn (Mike Patton, Mr. Bungle, Secret Chiefs 3) and drummer Kenny Grohowski (Cassandra Wilson, Giovanni Hidalgo) under the baton of John Zorn. The ensemble has emerged as Zorn’s project and has recorded a repertoire of The Book of Angels, from the second book of John Zorn’s opus of epic proportions – Masada, with whom Ribot has been successfully collaborating for decades and with whom he has recorded more than 30 albums.
