One more world premiere at Jazz Fest

The twentieth Jazz Fest Sarajevo will present a number of European and world premieres from 02 to 06 November, one of them will be the concert of the American drummer Mark Nauseef, French cellist Vincent Courtois and British bassist John Greaves.

Although they built opulent careers which include numerous musical collaborations, the three world-class artists will share the stage for the first time in this formation at a concert to be held on 05 November at Pozorište mladih.

Mark Nauseef appeared on the scene as a rock drummer, he used to be a member of the band Velvet Underground in the seventies, while during the eighties he turned to a wider range of musical styles, from jazz to Javanese, Balinese and Indian musical traditions. In the past three decades, he has collaborated with almost every significant jazz artists in the world, including Miroslav Tadić, whom he considers to be his musical alter ego and with whom he has had a prolific and long-term cooperation, they recorded from duets to diverse big orchestra formations.

About the second member of the trio, Vincent Courtois and the numerous albums released by the notable record labels Enja Records and ECM, music critics wrote he was “indispensable”, having “the most beautiful sound of the cello,” and that his performances brought “a deep sense of beauty.” Courtois has played on several albums of Rabih Abou-Khalil, has collaborated with Louis Sclavis and with old acquaintances of Jazz Fest audiences – Joachim Kuhn, Dave Holland, Renaud Garcia-Fons, Dave Douglas, and with Marc Ducret, who will also perform at the 20th Jazz Fest, with whom he has recorded a joint album Fitting Room.

John Greaves, as the third member of the ensemble, is a versatile artist, composer, vocalist, pianist and virtuoso bassist of interesting progressive British bands of the seventies. His discography is now counting 16 albums a leader and a few dozen as an associate. In the past eight years he has published a series of albums devoted to the poetry of Paul Verlaine.
