Jason Moran, the American pianist who is going to present “a dance party of composer, singer and great improviser Fats Waller” at 19th Jazz Fest Sarajevo, is also the author of an interesting project which was introduced at the Kennedy Center in Washington.
Moran is the artistic director for jazz at the prestigious center for performing arts, who initiated a project that connected jazz as an art form and skateboarding as an influential American subculture in a project called Finding a Line which links arts and sports in an interesting way, evoking memories from his own childhood.
“During the 80’s my brother and I used to skate regularly around Huston, and when we didn’t skate, we used to watch skate videos that usually had jazz as background music. Skate icon Mark Gonzales used to skate to the music of John Coltrane – two innovators who spoke the same language through different media“, concluded Moran.
Great improvisers are able to adapt fast to a certain situation and environment. Jazz Fest’s audience will have the opportunity on 04 November to see for themselves that Jason Moran is one of them. The versatile pianist, composer and bandleader is going to perform with his band members, former opera singer Lisa Harris, trumpeter Donvonte McCoy, bassist Tarus Mateen and drummer Daru Jones.
