Fifth day of 18 Jazz Fest Sarajevo will be under the sign of saxophonist Hakon Kornstad and the trio of double bassist Avishai Cohen.
Norwegian saxophonist, flutist and opera singer Hakon Kornstad is going to introduce his solo project Dwell Time on BKC’s stage at 20.00.
This won’t be the fist time for Bosnian and Hercegovenian audience to listen this versatile musician, he performed at Jazz Fest in 2007 as a member of the Jazzland Community project when some of the most important musicians of Scandinavian scene whose growing influence is gaining global importance, were introduced.
In the meantime he released three solo projects of which Dwell Time was rated as “stunning”, “a perfect little master piece” (All About Jazz), “astonishing album” (DownBeat) and “a jewel of Kornstad’s brilliant discography (Dagbladet). Critics think of him as “one of leading improvisers of the new millennium” while at his performances he only uses imagination and a simple electronic device to record and reproduce samples live on stage to create a sound of an orchestra playing with him.
At 21.00 Avishai Cohen and his trio will be performing the closing concert of their European tour. During the past decade this artist gained authority status on the jazz scene, not only as a brilliant instrumentalist but also as a fertile composer whose works are characterized by an authentic signature sound with elements of different musical traditions and influences combined with original musical ideas.
Beside extraordinary instrumental, Cohen also shows his vocal abilities on stage by singing in different languages including ladino, the language of Sephardi Jews. His career took off when he became a member Chick Corea’s “new trio” in mid 1990’s, Corea himself described him as a “great composer and brilliant musician”.
You can buy double bill tickets for the two concerts which means you will be able to enjoy both mentioned performances with one ticket. Festival box office is open every day from 12.00 to 22.00 at the Bosnian Cultural Center.
