Legendary guitar hero at Jazz Fest

In the first November week 18th Jazz Fest Sarajevo will bring some of most important artists of current music scene to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Among them British guitarist John McLaughlin who is well known for his energetic music and  eclectic solos that made him one of most popular and most influential musicians outside jazz.

Today, at age 72 and 5th career decade McLaughlin doesn’t rest on old glory. His current ensemble 4th Dimension he is going to perform with in Sarajevo brings innovative and fresh music.

Magazine Rolling Stone ranked this 2009 Grammy winner for best instrumental jazz album among most important guitarists of all times. He wrote jazz history as founder of Mahavishnu Orchestra and the project Shakti but also as Miles Davis‘ collaborator with whom he recorded 4 studio albums. Davis payed tribute to McLaughlin’s artistry and music on his album Bitches Brew where one composition is named after John McLaughlin.

McLaughlin’s improvisations with elements of blues, rock, flamenco and Indian music earned him respect from audience, critics and fellow musicians. British rock guitarist Jeff Beck called him “the best guitarist alive” and Indian instrumentalist Zakir Hussain thinks of him as “one of greatest and most important musicians of our time”.
