18th international music festival Jazz Fest Sarajevo 2014 will be held in the first November week and opened by Gregory Porter, Grammy winner in the category Best Jazz Album released last year and currently one of the most popular vocalists of the jazz scene.
As we promised few months ago, within this year’s festival program from 4 to 9 November, Jazz Fest’s audience will have the chance to watch another three Grammy winners who are going to present their current projects in Sarajevo. They are Dianne Reeves, John McLaughlin and Bill Frisell.
American singer Dianne Reeves who opened the 12th Jazz Fest eight years ago, is going to present her new album Beautiful Life that she released after a five year discography break. She is a four-time Grammy winner for best vocal performance and the only artist in Grammy history who won this prestigious award for four consecutive albums.
British guitarist John McLaughlin, founder of Mahavishnu Orchestra, jazz innovator and 2009 Grammy winner for Best Instrumental Jazz Album is going to present his new release The Boston Record. He is listed among most important guitarists of all times by the Rolling Stone magazine. McLaughlin is going to perform with his 4th Dimension ensemble.
We will also introduce American guitarist Bill Frisell and his Guitar in the Space Age project. Frisell won a Grammy in 2004 for Best Contemporary Jazz Album, he has been announced guitarist of the year by the Jazz Journalists Association third year in a row while DownBeat magazine critics honored him with the same appreciation fifth year in a row.
18th Jazz Fest concerts will be held on stage of the Bosnian Cultural Centre (Bosanski kulturni centar). Beside mentioned artists, we are going to present Norwegian saxophone player Hakon Kornstad, the trio of double bassist Avishai Cohen, brothers Teofilović from Serbia who are going to play a concert with guitarist Miroslav Tadić, while trumpeter Ibrahim Maalouf, this year’s winner of French national music award Les Victoires de la Musique in the category Best World Music Album released last year, also known as the French equivalent to the Grammy award, is going to close the 18th festival edition with a concert to be held on 9 November.
As in previous years, a club program will be part of this year’s festival program as well as other contents you will be informed about on time. As for young musicians and music students from the region, we prepared the 3rd educational program Music Meeting that will be open for applications via this website soon.
Tickets for Jazz Fest concerts will be available from 14 July on our web site at the link tickets.
Until then listen how Gregory Porter sounds “live” before you “see” him in live.
