New Hiromi Uehara release

Starting tonight, the next five nights Hiromi will be preforming at Blue Note New York with The Trio Project presenting her latest album Alive.

This is the third release that Uehara recorded with guitarist Anthony Jackson and drummer Simon Phillips after Voice (2011) and Move (2012). The new album brings nine original compositions.

Alive has a double meaning for me,” Hiromi says. “I wanted to write songs that deal with things and emotions that we encounter in life. But the word Alive can also mean ‘played live.’ I’ve been performing with Simon and Anthony for four years, and I felt that we can make the record sound like a live recording in front of the audience.

Music critics agree that Hiromi’s style is eclectic and her compositions technically challenging and very often unpredictable. “Alive is a sort of surprise because it sounds wildly complex, yet natural and free of artifice. Its feel is bright, warm, and hip.“, a critic wrote.
