The Bad Plus honoring Igor Stravinski

The Rite Of Spring is the name of a new album by the American trio The Bad Plus.

On the new album pianist Ethan Iverson, bassist Reid Anderson and drummer Dave King reinterpret Igor Stravinski‘s ballet and orchestral piece of the same name. They released one of his compositions, Variation d’Apollon, on their 2009 album For All I Care.

This piece made it to The Bad Plus’ repertoire at beginning of 2011 when they performed it under the name On Sacred Ground: Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring. After numerous performances in the US during the following year, European premiere followed in 2013 at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris.

The new album is the trio’s ninth release. It will be promoted in Europe during this month at concerts in Belgium, Netherlands, Czech Republic and Germany.

Iverson, Anderson and King introduced their distinctive combination of avant-garde jazz, rock and pop, by critics often referred to as The Bad Plus genre to the audience in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2012 at the 16th edition of Jazz Fest Sarajevo.
