The record label Verve has released the fifth edition of the series Verve Remixed: The First Ladies, a compilation of remixed compositions sung by female vocalists like Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Marlena Shaw and Astrud Gilberto.
The release consists of 13 compositions like Fly Me To The Moon sung by Astrud Gilberto, Marlena Shaw’s Women of the Ghetto and I’ve Got You Under My Skin by Dinah Washington, all songs considered all time jazz classics.
International DJs and producers: Kaskade, RAC, Bassnectar, Toro Y Moi, Pretty Lights and TOKiMONSTA from USA, C2C from France, Flume from Australia, Zed’s Dead and Azari III from Canada, Maya Jane Coles from the UK, DJ Carnage from Holland and Pontus Winnberg (from Miike Snow) from Sweden remixed all original compositions in contemporary dance manner.
Inspired by words of composer John Philip Sousa that “Jazz will exist as long as people listen to it with their feet and not their minds” the first edition of the series was released in 2002. It soon climbed to number two of Billboard’s Jazz Album Charts and number three of Dance/Electronic Album Charts.
The second compilation was released in 2003, followed by the third two years later and the fourth in 2008 including a special Christmas edition Verve Remixed: Christmas. After a five year brake, the latest release came out on 16 July on CD and Vinyl.
