89 years since birth of Sarah Vaughan

American jazz singer Sarah Vaughan was often described as one of the most beautiful voices of the 20th century, and the nickname her audience remembers her by to this day, was The Divine One.

She was born on this day in 1924 into a family that determined her career in many ways. Her father Jake, a carpenter, was passionate about music, he played guitar and piano and thought Sarah her first melodies.

Since she was 18, when she applied for an amateur competition at the Apollo Theater, until 3rd April 1990 when she died of lung cancer, Sarah has gone through numerous ups and downs, in music and private life. Today we remember this great artist whose name is inevitable when we speak of about music of the 20th century.
