Hilary Kole: Dispute over copyright

The widow of legendary Canadian pianist and composer Oscar Peterson filed a law suit against American jazz singer Hilary Kole for violation of copyrights.

The suit is about four songs: Our Love Is Here to Stay, My Romance, More Than You Know and Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered on which Hilary Kole performed as a vocalist, without any right to distribute or perform them.

Kole is charged for giving the contested songs to an internet radio station which played them, and demanded to pay 1 million US Dollars compensation as well as to return the songs to the production company Jayarvee.

The songs were recorded in 2006, they are the last recordings Peterson made before he died in December 2007.

Oscar Peterson released over 200 recordings in a career that lasted over six decades. He won 8 Grammy Awards, and his widow Kelly Peterson inherited all rights for his pieces.
