Herbie Hancock in a Luc Besson movie

Pianist Herbie Hacock will join the cast of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets by French director Luc Besson.

New Besson’s sci-fi feature movie is an adaptation of a French comic whose story takes place in the 28th century. In a short introduction of the movie, a ‘space opera’, ‘adventure’ and ‘travel through time’ were mentioned. The movie will hit the cinemas in 2017.

Sci-fi fans are already expecting to see an uncommon picture of the future this director is know for after his cult satus movies Fifth Element and Lucy. Beside Hancock, roles in the movie were confirmed by Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne, Clive Owen and Ethan Hawke.

Herbie Hancock received an Oscar in 1986 for the music he wrote for Round Midnight, a movie where he also appeared in a role of a musician alongside Bobby Hutcherson, John McLaughlin and Wayne Shorter. It is still not known if he will write music for the new Besson movie as well.
