American singer Macy Gray and jazz saxophonist David Murray will be playing tonight the first of three joint concerts at New York’s jazz club Iridium. They will perform with Murray’s 16-piece big band.
From 11 to 13 January at the Iridium a new repertoire will be presented that Murray composed specifically for this occasion. “A brand new repertoire for the show that includes bold new arrangements of Gray’s hits and brand new original compositions written specifically for the show”, as stated by Murray.
Gray and Murray performed last year with the mentioned project at London Jazz Festival, the Dutch North Sea Jazz Festival and Paris’ Jazz A La Villette.
The two artists worked earlier on studio projects. Gray sang Murray’s composition Be My Monster Love that will premier tonight at Iridium. It will be released on Murray’s album of the same name set for release in spring this year.
