16th Jazz Fest’s program has been announced

We introduce to you with big pleasure the program of the 16th international music festival Jazz Fest Sarajevo 2012, which will be held from 30 October to 4 November.

Performances by excellent artists, great production, club program, kids’ program, workshops for students and young musicians and a photo exhibition are a short description of things we are offering during six festival days.

Taksim Trio, an ensemble of virtuoso Turkish artists, Hüsnü Şenlendirici, Ismail Tunçbilek and Aytaç Doğan will open the festival on 30 October at Bosnian Cultural Center. The next day, the sensational Brazilian female singer and guitarist Badi Assad will perform on the same stage, as well as American trio The Bad Plus, praised by critics as “acoustic jazz trio of the future”.

On the third festival day, 1 November, which is dedicated to Miles Davis, we will introduce to you a project founded regarding the 20th death anniversary of one of the biggest jazz artists. The ensemble Miles Smiles is made of musicians who played and recorded with Miles, all of whom are excellent artists: trumpeter Wallace Roney, saxophonist Rick Margitza, guitarist Larry Coryell, organist Joey DeFrancesco, bassist Darryl Jones and drummer Omar Hakim.

We will also enjoy the music of an another great composer, Italian film music author Nino Rota, whose repertoire will be performed on 2 November by La Strada Quintet, the ensemble of famous French accordionist Richard Galliano.

On Saturday, 3 November, also at the BKC (Bosnian Cultural Center), the fascinating vocalist and oud player from Tunisia Dhafer Youssef will perform with his acoustic ensemble introducing his recent project Abu Nawas Rhapsody.

On the other festival stage, at Pozorište mladih, the 16th Jazz Fest Sarajevo will host a band of Dutch saxophonist Yuri Honing Wired Paradise, Swiss avant-garde  singer and multi-instrumentalist Erika Stucky and Norwegian drummer Paolo Vinaccia who will premier with other Norwegian and Bosnian and Hercegovinian musicians.

We are presenting local artists, the Arkul Orchestra will premier with sephardic music performed by a sextet from Mostar, Sarajevo, Tuzla and Prijedor. Bojan Zulfikarpašić, French pianist of Bosnian and Hercegovinian origin, born in Belgrade, will perform on the same stage. Zulfikarpašić is the most important contemporary jazz musician from Western Balkans and one of artists whose career Jazz Fest is following on regular basis. This genius pianist marked the year with a new album and a title of Jazz Musician Of The Year in France, which is also the reason for his concert at the 16th Jazz Fest.

We didn’t forget the festival’s youngest visitors who we traditionally dedicate the Sunday to – last festival day. We hope that the 4th November concert and workshop for children of preschool and school age will attract a large audience to the BKC.

Beside excellent artists that we will introduce to festival visitors, we can promise you our traditional flawless organisation and production we dedicate a lot of attention to.

During the next few days we will publish the program of the club scene Late Nite Stage which will be organised every night at late evening hours.

Take a loot at the last year’s festival in our video chronicles.
