Korean singer Youn Sun Nah, won the French Gold Award for 50.000 sold copies of her latest album Same Girl.
The album Same Girl was released by ACT in September 2010. Right after the release, the album reached #1 of the jazz charts, stays in the top 20 until today – over 80 weeks after the release and made it to the top 40 of the pop charts. It was declared the most successful jazz album in France in 2010 and 2011.
Youn Sun was born in 1969 in Seoul, she lives in France since 1995, where she has established herself as jazz vocalist.
Her latest award winning album is her 7th release on which she explores eclectic combination of original compositions and covers of uncommon songs, far away from mainstream.
She recorded Same Girl with three extraordinary musicians: guitarist Ulf Walkenius, bassist Lars Danielsson and percussionist Xavier Desandre-Navarre, with which she already has recorded her album Voyage, released in 2009.
Youn Sun Nah is last year’s winner of the German ECHO in the category Best International Jazz Vocalist. Her unique mixture of French Chanson, pop and jazz, inspired by musical elements of her home country and her outstanding stage presence suggest a bright future of this artist.
