Ibrahim Maalouf at Jazz Fest

After the announcement by beginning of the week that this year’s festival in November will be closed by Gregory Porter, most wanted jazz singer at the moment, today we are officially announcing that the festival will be closed by yet another big name – trumpeter Ibrahim Maalouf.

Born in Beirut, raised in the suburbs of Paris, Maalouf is present on the scene since he was nine when he used to share it with his father, a trumpeter as well. While studying, he received 15 international prizes within four years and continued to do so till this day. This year started with the French Grammy for him, respectively the French national award Les Victoires de la Musique in the category World Music Album released in the previous year. He received the award for his fifth CD Illusions which he is going to present on 9th November at the closing of 18th Jazz Fest.

Maalouf gained international reputation thanks to extraordinary albums and excellent performances. He became known to wider audiences after collaborating with Sting. His albums are the most sold instrumental discography releases in France three years in a row, the warm sound of his trumpet brings an interesting combination of different styles and traditions and it seams that no limitations exist when it comes to audience interest in his work.

Listen to a composition from Maalouf’s first album Diasporas released in 2007.
