Ralph Towner, composer and instrumentalist who is a significant name on the American
and the world music scene since the 1960s, will present himself with a concert on 5th November at the Youth Theatre during the 15th Jazz Fest Sarajevo.
His greatness lies not only in the vast music education, many published records, Grammy nominations and cooperation with many known artists such as Keith Jarrett, Jan Garbarek, Gary Peacock, John Abercrombie and others, but mainly in Towner’s unique style and approach to music.
During 1960s he was a member of Paul Winter’s Project Consort, and in 70s he had his own band Oregon, with which he released a significant number of influential albums that combined techniques of avant-garde jazz with some traditional musical forms.
The last solo release by Ralph Towner, an excellent album Time Line, is his fifth solo album and in total 21. album which he recorded for the label ECM.
Towner in his work combines classical composing principles, improvisational techniques of jazz, elements of traditional music, and new technologies.
His solo performances are a pleasure for the ear and soul – a bit melancholic but deeply poetic, and his virtuosity is spontaneous and logical without the need for any sort of exhibitionism.
Tickets for this and other concerts at Jazz Fest can be purchased at the box office in BKC, every day (except Sunday) from 12.00 to 20.00.
